This site-specific piece, installed in the foyer of the Wave Hill House, referenced the Roman god, Janus, who symbolized change and the progression of time. The installation, including 84 alarm clocks and 172 wish bones arranged in patterns detailing architectural elements of the historic space, stressed the viewers' actions of arriving and leaving and emphasized the doorway as a place of transition. An audio component explored New Year traditions and rituals that mark the cyclical passing of time, referencing resolutions, wishes, and memories. By making viewers more aware of their movements "coming" and "going" through the foyer, the installation also encouraged them to become more aware of their "movement" through time. |
